Vodafone SureSignal setup

Well today I bought a Vodafone Sure Signal, and in trying to set it up I came across a number of problems that were not too easy to find on the Vodafone website. Below is how I managed to set up my Suresignal.

Firstly, the instruction paper you receive with your Sure Signal (SS) does not state the device will need to download a potentially large amount of updates. When this occurs the power light (The top light), the @ or Internet light (light 2) and the phone light (light 3) will flash in the following sequence:

  • 1,2,3 on
  • 1,3 on 2 off
  • 2 on 1,3 off

This for me on a 8 MB BT business connection lasted approximately 15 mins.

The paper provided with the SS suggests a flashing power light and flashing @ light indicate an inability to connect to the web for some reason, and to check the Sure Signal website for details surrounding the router that I happen to own. The other thing that is worth noting is the following ports to IP addresses are needed to be opened:

Destination IP Addresses:

  • 212.183.133.177
  • 212.183.133.178
  • 212.183.133.179

Ports and Protocols:

  • Port 50 - TCP/IP
  • Port 4500 - UDP
  • Port 500 - UDP

All the above information was constructed by looking through the Vodafone forum at (originally linking to) [forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=57033] Sure Signal Sequence of lights thread as well as (originally linking to) [forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=55431] Sure Signal Light 1, Light 2 flashing thread - I hope this helps you set up your SureSignal.

Edit in 2013 - these forum threads appear to have been deleted - so the links have been removed. The text remains for prosperity
